Unusual Response Metric (URM)

Protecting the integrity of your aptitude results in an AI‑enabled world

Why We Built URM

AI tools have become powerful, easily accessible, and increasingly capable of solving aptitude test questions. Even with existing protections like copy‑paste restrictions, risks remain such as screenshots, AI‑enabled browsers, or access to worked answers.

This creates a challenge for every organization that relies on aptitude tests to make fair, accurate hiring decisions.

We built URM to solve this problem.
URM helps ensure your results truly reflect a candidate’s ability, not the assistance of AI or other non‑genuine behaviors.

What URM Is

URM (Unusual Response Metric) is a behind‑the‑scenes detection indicator built into all Saville aptitude tests.
It highlights test completions that show unusual response patterns compared to typical pre‑AI behavior.

It is not a cheating detector and does not change a candidate’s score.

It simply signals: “This looks atypical — please take a closer look.”

The Core Benefits for You

1. Confidence your results reflect true ability

URM adds an essential integrity safeguard, giving you clearer assurance that aptitude scores remain valid in an AI‑driven world.

2. A non‑intrusive, candidate‑friendly solution

URM works silently in the background without disrupting the test experience or requiring supervision.

3. Simple, decisive recommended action

If URM is flagged, the next step is clear: Retest the candidate under supervision (in‑person or remote proctoring).

4. Easy for your teams — no extra steps, no extra training

URM activates automatically once enabled on your platform.

Where You’ll See URM

Once turned on for your platform, you’ll see URM flags in:

  • Wave Connect dashboards
  • Oasys Score Extracts

URM is visible only to project administrators. Candidates will never see the URM flag.

FAQ

Does a URM flag mean the candidate cheated?

  • No. A URM flag does not confirm cheating, it simply signals an unusual response pattern that warrants a supervised retest.

Will candidates know URM is being used?

  • Candidates are not shown the URM flag. However, all aptitude instructions now include a short line informing candidates that test integrity measures may be in place — this transparency helps reduce misconduct.

Does URM change a candidate’s score?

  • No. It is a completely separate indicator and does not alter the aptitude score.

Which tests include URM?

  • URM is built into all Saville aptitude tests (excluding Workplace English).

Who can view URM?

  • Only platform administrators. URM is not shown in PDF reports or to candidates.

How is URM activated for our account?

  • Simply speak to your Saville contact or Managed Services. Once enabled, URM is applied automatically going forward.

Is there an additional charge if we retest a candidate due to URM?

  • If a candidate is reset specifically due to a URM flag from an open project, completing the test again does not incur additional cost. If the project is already closed, it is necessary to open a new project for the completion which is charged at standard rate.

If a candidate retests, will the new score update the combined scoring in Wave Connect?

  • Yes. The supervised retest score will automatically replace the previous aptitude score in combined fit calculations.

Should URM be used to reject candidates?

  • No. URM is not a pass/fail tool — it is an integrity safeguard. Always validate via supervised retest before making decisions.

How does URM compare with Proctoring?

  • URM = data‑driven detection after the test
  • Proctoring = recorded supervision during the test
  • They are complementary: URM helps you spot potential issues; proctoring helps you confirm and prevent them.

In Summary

URM gives you a modern, science‑driven safety net against AI‑assisted or non‑genuine performance, without adding friction.

It strengthens the trust you can place in your aptitude results and helps ensure your hiring decisions remain fair, valid and future‑proof.
